Richard Brown, Chairman of the Board

Mark your calendars for Friday, April 4th for the 6th Annual Wild and Wacky Waiter Dinner. It will be held at the Brookhaven Country Club starting at 6:30 PM. Our Wild & Wacky Waiters continue to become even more creative each year. Rumors hint this will be the most competitive dinner with some very original themes.  If your company or organization has not signed up for a table, plan to be there individually and join in the fun and be sure to take part in the live and silent auction.

Talking about auctions, have you donated your items yet? Beverly Wagner and her committee have rounded up some great auction items. Look on the sneak preview page to see what will be available for the live and silent auction that night. We are still soliciting auction items so contact Beverly today.

Great entertainment, a wonderful meal, networking and advertising for your company, products and services are all excellent reasons to make your reservations now. Contact Lara Orlic at the Chamber Office so you can be represented along with many of the Farmers Branch Chamber Members. This is your opportunity to see many community leaders serve as our celebrity waiters.

April will be a special month for Branch Out as we have 5 Wednesdays and City Manager Gary Greer will join us on the 5th Wednesday, April 30th as we spotlight the City of Farmers Branch. Join us each Wednesday starting at 7:30 am at the Italian Pasta Restaurant, 12895 Josey Lane, Suite 128. This is just a few doors from Turner Hardware.

Sincerely,

Richard Brown

Chairman of the Board

Education Committee Update
by Joel Lebsack, C-FB ISD

Youth Leadership Farmers Branch
Since 1996, The Farmers Branch Chamber of Commerce has sponsored a youth leadership program for selected students from
R.L.Turner High School.  To become part of the class, the students, who must be members of the junior class, apply and then go through an interview process.

The initial group activity took place last October, and the culminating activity for the 20 members of the group will be their graduation at the Farmers Branch Chamber of Commerce luncheon on May 9th.  The adult sponsors of the group are Jo Gillen from the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD and Lara Orlic from the Farmers Branch Chamber.  A very special thanks goes out to IBM for completely underwriting the program.  This allows the students to participate in the program without any financial responsibility.

The monthly meetings for the youth leadership class have included team building and leadership-related activities.  They have also participated in a city government day led by department heads from the City of Farmers Branch.

On April 22, the students will board a bus to Austin for State Government Day.  Some of the activities scheduled for the students include a VIP Capitol Tour and discussions with Rep. Jimmy L. Jackson, Terral Smith (Chief of Staff for Speaker Tom Craddick), Craig Pardue from Dallas County, and Mark Lehman (Lobbyist for the Texas Realtors).

There are a few extra seats on the bus.  If there are any Farmers Branch Chamber of Commerce members who are interested in riding the bus to Austin on April 22nd, please contact Lara Orlic at lorlic@fbchamber.com or you can call her at (972) 243-8966.
