Chairman's
Message
Richard Brown,
Chairman of the Board
When we think of
August, some will think of hot weather and
others getting children back to school. In
Farmers Branch we think of our 19th Annual Golf
Classic being held on Monday, August 25th at
Brookhaven Country Club. Registration begins at
7:30 am and tee time is 8:30 am. Every member
was recently sent a brochure with full details
about entry fees, many contests on different
holes, sponsorship opportunities and that all
important sign up page. In addition our
outstanding golf committee is requesting golf
ball and prize donations. What a great way to
promote your company or business. Need more
information? Contact the Chamber office or
website for full details so you can be part of
one of the most successful Special Events held
each year. August is also when we
return to Branch Out, our weekly networking
event, after being off in July. What makes it so
special in August? Each Wednesday we will meet
at a different business as they host this
networking activity. Watch for the announcements
of each week's sponsor and location. Make all
four Wednesdays and you will be in a drawing for
a special prize. Also mark your
calendars for Thursday, August 28th for our
next seminar presented by our Economic
Development Committee. Join us for "Mission
Possible" presented by Judy
Bragg. Did you know you can now
register online for all these events? A special
thanks to Lara Orlic, Director of Chamber
Relations, for her expertise with setting up our
fantastic website and now the availability to
sign up for all our activities and
events. Finally, a special thank
you to Beverly Wagner, Sonja Dodds, Calla
Davis, Ruth Ann Parish, Joan Abbey, Sandee
Treptow, and Anne Acuna for all their
creativity in planning a Baby Shower honoring
Lara Orlic. Lots of activities and food donated
by our very generous members. We are looking
forward to meeting
Bruiser!
Sincerely,
Richard Brown

2008-2009 SCHOOL
YEAR
The new school year is just
around the corner, and I would like to take this
opportunity to welcome back our returning
students. I also would like to extend a
special welcome to our new students and their
families. As you know, the first day of
school for all students from kindergarten
through 12th grade is Monday, August 25th.
Pre-kindergarten students report for their first
day on Tuesday, September 2nd.
Returning students should soon be
receiving information through the mail regarding
the upcoming school year and what needs to be
done to be ready for the first day of
school. New students to the district are
required to register. To register, you
will need 1) an original birth certificate, 2)
the student's social security card, 3) the
student's immunization record, 4) the student's
last report card, and 5) two proofs of
residency. For your proof of residency,
you can use a current lease or mortgage, a
current utility bill, a driver's license, voter
registration card, or a bank or insurance
statement.
The dates and times for student
registration vary by school. To find out
the information for your particular school, go
to www.cfbisd.edu and click on the Back to
School 2008-2009 link in the upper left hand
corner of the home page. Then click on the
quick download version of the Back to School
2008-2009 information. You may also call
your school if you do not have internet
access. And if you are not sure about
which school you will attend this fall, the
school district website also has a School
Locator Service link. We are very excited
about the start of school in August. Once
again, welcome back and have a great school
year.
