Chairman's
Message
Richard Brown, Chairman
of the Board
Congratulations to our Special Events
Committee chaired by Greg Shoemaker, Town North Bank and
Jeff Weaver, Ebby Halliday Realtors for a fantastic Wild
and Wacky Waiter Dinner along with a very successful
silent and live auction. Their committee worked very
hard planning this zany evening of activities including
costumes, creative table decorations and even
entertainment.
Thank you to everyone on that committee
and especially to Beverly Wagner and Sonja Dodds for
their extra hard work and efforts in securing auction
items. The bidding for the silent auction items really
got intense as the time to close bidding
approached.
Talk about entertainment, we will not soon
forget the City of Farmers Branch singing and even
dancing in a rock and roll dedication to Mayor Bob
Phelps. Was that Fire Chief Kyle King with his hair
slicked back singing with the ladies, led by Cindee
Peters, in their poodle skirts? Thanks to Nicole Recker
and the City of Farmers Branch for their very creative,
award winning presentation.
May is
graduation for our 20 Youth Leadership students. We will
recognize them at our May Membership Luncheon on May
9th at Brookhaven Country Club. Make your
reservations today and help us congratulate them as our
best ever Youth Leadership group graduates. Every year
the quality of students only gets better! A special note
of appreciation to Jo Gillen and Lara
Orlic. Their
leadership and guidance in working with the 2008 Youth
Leadership class is appreciated by
everyone.
Look for more great activities and
opportunities in the coming months for you to get
involved in your Chamber.
Sincerely,
Richard
Brown

Town North Bank to Sponsor May
Luncheon
Growth is the headline news for
Town North Bank.
2007 was our
best year ever in terms of percentage and absolute
growth in core bank lending - primarily in commercial
and commercial real estate loans. Not only have we
experienced solid growth in the lending division, but we
are also now fully staffed with loan officers and are
encouraged by the quality and quantity of new loan
opportunities
We continue to have exceptional
growth in our newest business unit, Mortgage Warehouse
Lending. The Mortgage Warehouse Lending business unit is
only four years old but has generated strong profits and
met with resounding success. Due to the
nature of this type of lending and the policies we
established to govern it, we are in no way impacted by
the residential mortgage "meltdown. We are most pleased
with the positioning of that business, not only in our
local market but in the southwest U.S.
The credit
and debit card processing business units had their best
year ever in the number of new credit union clients.
Plus, we enjoyed a record year in growth in TNB Nevada,
our credit card bank charter, as loans outstanding grew
124%. A significant amount of work was done this year to
comply with the Payment Card Industry Data Security
Standards (PCI). Compliance with
this standard is an indicator of our ability and
commitment to compete in the payments industry.
While growth
is evident in all of our business units, we have
continued our traditional emphasis on quality and
profitability. To enhance our products and services to
clients, we are judiciously employing $60 million in new
capital stock, which was subscribed by our owners in
2006. We continue to increase our investment in
technology and people who know how to use technology to
meet customer needs and make us more
efficient.
We remain
committed to relationship banking by providing "go the
extra mile" service to our customers, while at the same
time providing the products that meet our customers'
needs and make us competitive in the markets we
serve.
We
appreciate the support and confidence of our many
customers, friends and business
partners.

Education Committee Update
by Joel Lebsack, C-FB ISD
Texas
Scholars Program
Texas
Scholars is a program designed to motivate all students
to complete the rigorous coursework required to earn the
state Recommended Program Seal. The program
emphasizes college prep courses in mathematics, science,
social studies, language arts, foreign language, and
technology applications. The intent of
the program is to help students and their parents
understand that the best paying jobs go to those
students who are academically
well-prepared.
In
the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, we are currently in
the fifth year of this program. Mr. Paul Beeler,
the Executive Director of Career and Technology
Education has done a wonderful job of getting members of
the business community involved in the program. During the last
two weeks of January, approximately 50 business people
made 70 PowerPoint presentations to all of the eighth
graders in our school district. Prior to going
to the middle schools, the business partners attended a
three-hour training session. The
presentations lasted 45 minutes and were made at all six
of the middle schools. In all, about
1,900 students attended the presentations.
We
want to extend a special thank you to all of the
business people who volunteered their time to
participate in the Texas Scholars program. Also, we want to
thank Mr. Beeler for coordinating this program each
year. Youth
Leadership Farmers
Branch
This is a reminder that
the Youth Leadership class will graduate at the May
9th Farmers Branch Chamber of Commerce
monthly luncheon.
This year's class of 20 juniors from R.L.Turner
High
School has
participated in a variety of activities since last
October.
The group has just returned from their State
Government Day event which took place on April
22nd.
Some of the highlights from State Government Day
included a VIP Capitol
tour and meetings with Rep. Jim L. Jackson, Terral Smith
(Chief of staff for Speaker Tom Craddick), Craig Pardue
from Dallas County, and Mark Lehman (Lobbyist for the
Texas
Realtors). |
