Chairman's
Message
Jeanne Hooker, Chairman
of the Board
I can't believe it is already October and
time for the State Fair and those delicious Corny Dogs!
Where has the year gone? Our Chamber has
had a successful year even though we have had some staff
changes.
Hope all of you have had an opportunity to meet
Debbie Witt our new Administrative Assistant.
Our Farmers Branch Chamber Golf Tournament
was a successful one and we made more money than
projected and everyone enjoyed themselves. Thanks
to Bob Dalton and the committee for all their efforts in
making this successful, also to Brookhaven Country Club
and all the sponsors.

Education Committee Update
by Mary Jane Stevenson, City of Farmers
Branch
Twenty
lucky R.L. Turner High School juniors will be selected
to be members of the Chamber's Youth Leadership Class of
2008. These students were nominated by their school
counselors and last year's graduating Youth Leadership
Class to participate in the program. Three members of
the Education Committee will interview the candidates to
determine who will comprise the
class.
Going into its thirteenth year,
the class develops young people to become leaders not
only in their school but also for the Farmers Branch
community now and when, it is hoped, they choose to live
and work here when they graduate from college or
technical school.
Among the activities they will
participate in during the Leadership Class are a ropes
course, city and state government days and career
exploration. More on all of these in the months
ahead.
Superintendent of the Carrollton-Farmers
Branch ISD, Dr. Annette Griffin, addressed the business
community at the State of Education Luncheon on Sept.
14th. Dr. Griffin highlighted the partnerships the
district had with the local business community and some
of the district's recent accomplishments.
Dr. Griffin reported that more middle and
high school students are taking advanced courses.
The district saw 683 more students take an advanced
course in 2006-07 than in the previous year. She also
talked about the facility improvements in Farmers
Branch. For
more C-FB ISD news, go to their website at www.cfbisd,edu.
